Membership of local authority schools forum

Commenting on the result of an FOI request for details on the membership of local authority schools forum Jenny Coles, Chair of the ADCS Families, Communities and Young People Policy Committee, said:

“Children’s early life experiences, particularly between 0-5 years, the quality of parenting and the education that they receive are crucial to improving their longer term outcomes and this is why local authorities continue to invest in universal early years services for children such as health visiting. The results of this FOI show that 99% of local authorities are currently meeting their statutory obligations in terms of having at least one representative from the early years sector on their schools forum. Given what we know about its importance there is need for greater investment in, and prioritisation of the early years at a national level.”
