Panorama Investigation into Deaths in the Mental Health System

Dave Hill, President of The Association of Directors of Children’s Services, said:

“Children and young people with mental health conditions are extremely vulnerable so the systems in place to support them must do so in the best possible way. Services should be available and accessible and for many children and young people support earlier on rather than at the point of crisis can help aid recovery and improve their outcomes in life. Professionals should have a good understanding of the progress made by individual patients in order to tailor support accordingly to meet their needs and manage risks appropriately. The investigation highlighted major concerns around data recording which requires urgent attention and action from government. Data should be recorded and outcomes measured so that where services are not good enough immediate changes can be made to safeguard children and young people.”
