East Midlands Summer 2015 Update

Update from the East Midlands region for ADCS Council of Reference

1) Children’s Workforce Framework

a) This seminar went well with over 110 delegates from over 50 LAs beyond the East Midlands region. The overwhelming feedback was positive with strong support for joint development that can be made nationally available. A number of very practical suggestions were made to the ideas presented and these are being considered by the regional working group.

b) Maybe most significantly the event provided opportunity to start the alignment of these EM-led ideas with the national ADCS work to develop an apprenticeship framework. In addition a couple of LAs offered their local developments ‘into the mix’. The next steps are now being planned to bring this body of work together and to seek support and finance to establish a comprehensive framework.

2) Sector Led Improvement

This work is all proceeding to plan with self-assessments being submitted for peer challenge. A supplementary programme of Safeguarding Assurance activity is now also underway.

3) Regional QSW protocol

A draft MoU is being circulated and developed, with the work led by a regional task and finish group.

4) Tackling the East Midlands’ Schools Challenge

Almost 300 school leaders from across the region meet on 2nd June with Ofsted, LA and NCTL partners to develop well-focussed action plans that strengthen the school led arrangements, in particular the role of Teaching School Alliances.
