National Dispersal Scheme for UASC

Dave Hill, President of the Association of Directors of Children’s Services, said:

“A national scheme, implemented regionally makes sense in the spirit of fairness but the detail and implementation of it will be critical. We need support from government to ensure the scheme is sustainable and properly funded and we will also need a sufficient supply of experienced foster carers so that the children and young people can receive the support and care they deserve.

“Arrangements will need to be flexible taking into account local circumstances, child-focused and consider the views and wishes of children and young people themselves. It is also important that the children are treated with humanity and their immediate health needs are met when they arrive perhaps through the creation of regional reception centres. We are keen to discuss with government how this will work in practice.”
