Comment on multi-building registrations of children’s homes
Commenting on new Ofsted guidance for registering children’s homes, ADCS President Charlotte Ramsden said:
“Ofsted’s guidance for multi-building registrations of children’s homes is a helpful step to provide increased flexibility in a sector where the pressures are acute. Any effort to increase the sufficiency of placements and address the challenges in the system, such as availability of registered homes or emergency placements, are welcome.
“Whilst this new guidance is helpful, much more needs to be done to ensure regulation supports LAs and providers to meet the needs of children today. ADCS has long called for a regulatory review which ensures care is regulated by the outcomes it delivers not the building it is based in. Improving access to mental health provision for vulnerable children and young people, investment in the workforce, and addressing excessive profit making by private equity firms are also areas that must be addressed. The ongoing Care Review provides an ideal opportunity to tackle these longstanding issues.”
