Comment on Recent Judgements by Judge Munby

Commenting on recent judgements by Judge Munby on Section 20 care arrangements, Jenny Coles, Chair of the Families, Communities and Young People Policy Committee, said:

“Whilst it is disappointing to have poor practice highlighted it does help us to identify areas where practice could be better and to make improvements. Each and every day social workers must make difficult decisions in order to protect children and young people from harm. And whilst we don’t always get things right it is important to recognise that much life changing work is taking place to help children and their families go on to lead happy and successful lives. Directors of Children’s Services are committed to ensuring that social workers continue to receive high quality training, support, and individual guidance to better equip them for the realities of practice on the ground when dealing with increasingly complex family situations.”
