Comment on the Latest Cafcass Figures

Responding to the latest care applications figures from Cafcass, Alison O’Sullivan, President of the Association of Directors of Children’s Services, said:

“These figures show that Directors and their local authorities are having to apply to the courts to keep more children safe now than ever before but it is becoming progressively difficult in light of the continuous reductions to local government funding. This is having a clear impact on vital non-statutory services - reducing capacity in the system for early intervention.

“Our members continue to work hard to get the best from the limited funds available but whilst resources are diminishing the government must recognise that need is not.”

The Association of Directors of Children’s Services (ADCS) Ltd is the professional leadership association for Directors of Children’s Services and their senior management teams in England.
