Power to Innovate - DfE Policy Statement
Isabelle Trowler, Chief Social Worker for Children and Families, England has written to all DCSs and other key partners regarding the ‘Power to Innovate’. She has set out her views on why innovation is vital to improving outcomes for children and young people and also to address some of the concerns raised.
Clauses 29-31 of the Children and Social Work Bill will introduce a new power to allow local authorities to apply for exemptions or modifications to children’s social care legislation to enable them to test new ways of working. This briefing note, shared by Chief Social Worker for Children and Families provides further information about why the power to innovate is needed, detail of how applications will be considered and examples of how it could be used.
