ADCS response: Schools Bill announcement

Responding to the announcement that the Schools Bill has been dropped, Steve Crocker, ADCS President, said:

“We recognise the government is facing urgent and competing priorities and parliamentary time is limited. However, the Schools Bill contained a number of important elements which we are disappointed to see dropped. This includes: a collaborative standard for academies and local authorities to work together and a register of children not in school as well having as implications for local authority established trusts. It is positive that the Secretary of State remains committed to the aims of the Schools Bill and we would hope some parts of the Bill may be able to be re-packaged into other bits of legislation. This will of course take time given the busy legislative agenda and we urge government to ensure we don’t lose momentum in these important areas. We await more information from government on achieving the aims set out in the Schools White Paper and want to work with them on this.”
