Difficulties in accessing school places for children in care

Debbie Barnes, Chair of the ADCS Educational Achievement Policy Committee, said:

“Promoting the best educational outcomes for the children in our care is a priority for directors and elected members alike as corporate parents. National education reforms are giving schools increasing levels autonomy and the role of the local authority continues to change with regards to education, however, our duties in relation to securing the very best outcomes for the children in our care remain crystal clear.

“Every single day out of school is detrimental so we work tirelessly with schools to ensure children in care secure a place without delay. We are also working with the Department for Education and the Education and Skills Funding Agency to reduce delays at school level.”
