New national funding formula for schools response
Ian Thomas, Chair of the Association’s Resources & Sustainability Policy Committee, said:
“The overriding principle of any true and fair national funding formula for schools must be promoting better outcomes for all pupils in all schools. Whilst we would welcome any additional funding provided via the new formula for local areas, this will not be the case in all areas, some schools will see their funding reduced considerably. This a concern for our members and should be for government too. Reducing funding in some areas only adds to the pressures that schools currently face and places the progress being made by schools in many areas at risk. A high quality education system is as important to the future of our children and young people as it is to the future of our local communities so great care must be taken when considering implementing such a fundamental change to the way in which funding is distributed to schools. The Association will be responding to the second stage of the consultation in due course.”
