Knowledge and Skills Statements for Child and Family Social Work

Commenting on the knowledge and skills statements, Rachael Wardell, Chair of the ADCS Workforce Development Policy Committee, said:
“Skilled social workers are vital to improving outcomes for children and their families. So we welcome initiatives to further develop the social work workforce and clarification of the skills and knowledge required as social workers progress through their career. This is helpful at a time of significant change in the landscape of children’s services. However, it needs to have a coherent place within the existing frameworks for continued professional development. And if the statements were mandated, it would represent a new burden for local authorities which would need to be adequately funded by central government and implemented in such a way as to not destabilise services.”
