Heather Sandy, Chair of the ADCS Education policy committee, said:
“The Association has raised concerns over a number of years about the use of elective home education in regards to safeguarding and adequate standard of teaching, which is why we continue to call for a national register. While a register in and of itself will not keep children safe, it will help to establish exactly how many children are being educated other than at school. We are pleased with the Government’s plans to establish one and would want to see implementation brought forward as quickly possible. Flexi schooling can be used as a tool to help a child reintegrate into school after a period of home education or illness, but we need to guard against misuse.”
