
Remit
The remit of the Families, Communities & Young People Policy Committee (FCYP) covers all aspects of:
- Safeguarding, including Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCB)
- Preventative services, children’s centres and extended schools
- Childcare and early years
- Parenting support
- Community safety
- Community cohesion and anti-poverty work
- Youth services
- Youth justice.
The Committee also takes reports from the Association’s Asylum Taskforce which is chaired by Chris Spencer, Director of Children’s Services in Gloucestershire. The Taskforce provides an interface between local authorities and relevant government departments on the statutory responsibilities of directors of children’s services for families and unaccompanied children who are subject to immigration legislation. It seeks to identify and share best practice in this area.
