Commenting on the announcement that compulsory academisation for schools receiving two consecutive ‘RI’ judgements will end, Heather Sandy, Chair of the ADCS Education Policy Committee, said:
“ADCS welcomes the government’s move away from using the compulsory academisation of schools as the main tool for improvement. There is little evidence that becoming an academy improves outcomes for learners, particularly the most vulnerable, such as children in care. It is important to remember that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to school improvement and structural reform alone is rarely the answer. Children’s experiences and educational outcomes should always be our priority, not structures.”
