Comment: Future funding of the Troubled Families Programme

Stuart Gallimore, ADCS Immediate Past President, said:

“The Troubled Families Programme ensures holistic support is provided to families that face multiple and complex challenges and has tasked all of us to work in an integrated way to help families not only address difficult situations in the short term but help them to change behaviours in the longer term. Investment through the Programme provides a valued opportunity for continued innovation and enables local authorities and their partners to work with children and families earlier and more effectively to prevent them from reaching crisis point. In many places this funding underpins the local early help offer. The evidence suggests the Programme is making a positive difference in the lives of children and families and we await assurances from government about its future. Moreover, we urgently need a sustainable long-term funding settlement for our children’s services to ensure the conditions are in place for children, families and communities to thrive.”
