Comment: Suspension of the National Adoption Register
Charlotte Ramsden, Chair of the ADCS Health, Care and Additional Needs Policy Committee, said:
“We recognise that there are concerns about the suspension of the National Adoption Register at the end of March and the possible impact this could have on children who are waiting and adopters. However, local authorities continue to take responsibility for our children who need adoption and the adopters we approve and have never relied on one system alone in the matching process. This is part of a twin track approach to planning for permanence. Our job is to make sure this change works for children and we have focused on making sure children and adopters on the register are also being progressed through other routes and, where appropriate, understand the change. We look forward to seeing the outcome of the Department for Education’s discovery phase which is looking into alternative platforms that could fulfil the role of the Register.”
