Comment on GCSE and VTQ results
Steve Crocker, ADCS President said:
“Today’s GCSE and vocational and technical qualification results demonstrate how incredibly hard our children and young people have worked during such difficult and uncertain times. The way they have dealt with ongoing, significant disruption to their education and exams since the beginning of the pandemic shows huge resilience. It is positive to see that GCSE results are higher than in 2019 when exams last took place.
“We await the equalities analysis from Ofqual to be published in the coming months, however, today’s results have shown a widening gap between different regions in the country, and also between affluent and disadvantaged areas within regions. Clearly, there is a need to invest long-term in children’s education recovery. We know that the pandemic has had a differential impact on children and young people, particularly the most disadvantaged. Sustained support to help them recover from the past two years by addressing educational and wider inequalities must be a priority for the new Prime Minister and for the Treasury if they want to make levelling up a reality.”
